Positive and regular contact will help the person to feel valued and supported and can help to prevent any worries they may have about not being at work. It will also give you an opportunity to discuss their return to work.

When a person is ready to return to work, it is a good idea to set up a meeting outside of the workplace to discuss the details of the return, reassure them about their role and update the person about what has happened at work in their absence.

This return to work interview gives the person chance to discuss their feelings, raise any adjustments they require and makes the return to work much more welcoming.
The aim is to make the return as smooth and stress-free as possible as too much pressure or overwhelming feelings can cause further problems.
