Law enforcement

In many countries there is a government body that enforces the country’s health and safety legislation.

They may give verbal or informal written advice to those who require attention.

In cases where legal requirements are not being met, some form of legal action may be taken requiring specific actions to be taken within a certain time limit by the organisation.

Where an imminent risk to life or property exists, a prohibition notice may be issued, banning a certain activity until the risk is properly controlled.

In extreme cases, where serious injury or death has occurred due to health and safety failings, the government body could prosecute the organisation inline with the country’s legal system.
