Step 3 – Evaluate the risks and implement controls
After identifying the risks and consulting your workers about them, then the next step is to evaluate those risks and decide whether they can be eliminated, if not, how can you control the risks so that harm is unlikely?
Options include:
• Trying a less risky option.
• Preventing access to the hazard.
• Re-organising work to reduce exposure to the hazard.
• Issuing personal protective equipment.
Remember to continually involve and train your staff to ensure that any new precautions will work in practice and don’t introduce new hazards.
