The Health and Safety Executive, or HSE, is the government body responsible for overseeing workplace health and safety in the UK.
The role of the HSE is to:
• Advise on any health and safety matters.
• Conduct any serious accident investigations.
• Inspect workplaces
The HSE also has several legal powers and can:
• Demand entry to the workplace without giving notice to do so.
• Prosecute any company, employer or employee.
• Issue prohibition or improvement notices which have to be followed.
